Pop-Up Vaccine Site Coming To Bushwick Senior Center On Friday

BROOKLYN, NY — A senior center on the Bed-Stuy and Bushwick border will become one of 14 pop-up vaccination sites opening in New York this week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced.

The Palmetto Gardens pop-up site will dole out coronavirus vaccines at 85 Palmetto St. this Friday along with several others set up throughout New York City's public housing developments, churches, community centers, schools and fire stations.

The 14 sites, announced Thursday, are expected to vaccinate more than 4,000 people throughout the week, Cuomo said. They will add to more than 100 pop-up sites that the state has opened since January.

"Our strategically placed pop-up sites have been invaluable in helping us reach New Yorkers living in vulnerable communities and to make the vaccine accessible to them," Cuomo said. "We will continue to work with trusted community leaders to address hesitancy around the vaccine and correct the injustice that poor communities suffered when COVID ambushed our state."

The Palmetto Gardens vaccine site will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Along with the rest of the pop-up sites, it will then be re-established in three weeks to give out second doses of the vaccine.
