WATCH: Pop-Up Storm Hits Brooklyn Sunday Afternoon

Residents (barely) caught the sudden downpour on their smartphones.

A thunderstorm moved through Brooklyn and Queens quicker than the National Weather Service (NWS) could issue warnings on Sunday afternoon.

At 3:18 p.m., the NWS warned that scattered thunderstorms with ”winds in excess of 40 MPH” and ”frequent cloud to ground lighting” would hit the area at 3:14 p.m.

A flood advisory was also issued around 3:10 p.m., but the news didn’t circulate until after the flooding had begun. Residents frantically checking weather sites during the storm were confused to see the forecast still showed clear, sunny skies.
