5 Injured In New Year's Day Crash On I-684
Police said the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
BEDFORD, NY — A New Year's Day one-car crash in the Town of Bedford resulted in five people with injuries. The state police said the incident occurred on Interstate 684 shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the initial investigation found Maribel Mota, 49, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was driving a 2019 Toyota Corolla north on I-684 in the area of mile marker 11.2 when she fell asleep at the wheel.
The car drifted into the left guide rail then across all lanes into the right guide rail.

That caused the Corolla to spin and overturn before striking the left guide rail for a second time.
Mota and the front-seat passenger Maria Mota, 29, were wearing seatbelts and sustained minor injuries.

There were three children in the rear seats who were not wearing seatbelts and sustained serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening at this time, police said.
A 16-year-old and an 8-year-old were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled, with both sustaining serious to critical injuries, according to authorities. A 12-year-old was not ejected, police said.
The interstate was closed until around 2 p.m. while emergency services helped the victims and trooper processed the scene.
A detour utilizing Exit 3N for Route 22 north was put in place at the time of the accident.
Bedford and Armonk fire departments and Westchester paramedics responded to the scene.
Police said it remains an ongoing investigation.
