The New York State Public High School Athletic Association honored Bedford School District teams for meeting rigorous academic standards.

BEDFORD, NY — The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has named eight sports teams from Fox Lane High School among the winter 2021 scholar-athlete teams. This is the 29th year the organization has recognized outstanding student athletes through its prestigious Scholar-Athlete program sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan and the American Dairy Association North East.

To receive Scholar-Athlete team recognition with a certificate, the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90.00, according to NYSPHSAA criteria. For the winter season, 1,624 Scholar-Athlete teams and 17,897 individuals were honored. A total of 430 schools across the state participated in the Scholar-Athlete program which highlights academic achievement in each of the seasons there are interscholastic competitions scheduled.

“I congratulate the scholar-athletes who have been recognized for the hard work, commitment and excellence in the classroom,” NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas said in a statement announcing the honors. “We continue to be extremely proud of this program which highlights the great work our student-athletes are doing in the classrooms. To see nearly 18,000 scholar-athletes honored is a testament to the incredible young men and women we have in our member schools.”
