Attorney Indicted In Fatal December Car Crash

The judge ordered him to surrender his passport and driver's license.

BEDFORD, NY — A Bedford man was charged with multiple felonies, including manslaughter, in the vehicular death of Diego Trejo in Bedford in December. Robert C. Schuster, 51, of Bedford, was indicted Thursday after surrendering to Bedford police.

He was arraigned before Westchester County Court Judge David S. Zuckerman.

Schuster, a criminal defense attorney, was indicted by a grand jury on the following:

  • Two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, felonies
  • Two counts of first-degre vehicular manslaughter, felonies
  • Second-degree manslaughter, a felony
  • Two counts of driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors
  • Reckless driving, a misdemeanor

The judge ordered Schuster to surrender his driver's license and passport.

Schuster was released on his own recognizance, as required by law, authorities said.

His next court date is scheduled for June 16.

Police said, on the night of Dec. 16, Schuster left a holiday party and was driving his 2018 BMW 750 east on Route 172 near Darlington Road in Bedford.

His blood alcohol concentration was 0.08 percent or higher, police said, when he drove his car over the double yellow line into the oncoming lane of travel and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Trejo, 22, a Mount Kisco resident.

Trejo died at the scene. Schuster was injured and was hospitalized.

Bedford Police Department and Westchester County Police investigated the crash.
