The 2021 Bedford-Katonah Area School Budget Election Results

BEDFORD, NY — The polls have closed and the votes have been tallied. The unofficial results are in. Here's what the voters decided in the 2021 Bedford Central School District, Katonah-Lewisboro School District and North Salem School District budget elections.

BEDFORD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT:

The proposed Bedford School District Budget was APPROVED by a vote of 1,529 to 494.

The approved budget is $144,465,256, a 3.38 percent increase over the 2020-21 spending package. School officials said the tax levy will increase by 2.25 percent.


Two board of education seats for three-year terms were also on the ballot. The winning candidates are:

  • Steven Matlin
  • Robert Mazurek

Incumbent Michael Bauscher was defeated.


KATONAH-LEWISBORO SCHOOL DISTRICT:

The Katonah-Lewisboro proposed budget of $113,242,880, with a 1.59 percent increase over the 2020-21 spending package was APPROVED.

School officials said the tax levy will now increase by 1.79 percent.

The spending plan calls for the replacement of at least three school buses. The budget also includes funds for teacher pay raises.


There were a total of two school trustee seats to be filled for three-year terms on the ballot. The winners of these were:

  • Marjorie Schiff (incumbent)
  • Elana Shneyer

Both candidates ran unopposed.


There was one additional proposition on the ballot this year:

The proposition to purchase new school buses was APPROVED


NORTH SALEM SCHOOL DISTRICT:

The proposed North Salem School District budget of $45,914,756, with a 2.11 percent increase over the 2020-21 spending package was APPROVED by a vote of 728 to 233.

School officials said the tax levy will now increase by 1.26 percent.

There were a total of two school trustee seats to be filled for three-year terms. The winning candidates are:

  • Paul Giamundo (incumbent)
  • Brian Lange

Voters were also asked to vote on a second proposition regarding funding for a $6.9 million athletic fields improvement project. The proposition was APPROVED.

The funding will include the cost of new synthetic turf field on the MS/HS campus, field lighting, netting, score board and bleachers. The project calls for four unisex restrooms and other improvements to Tompkins Field.
