Bedford Town Hall Rainbow Pride Flag Raising Ceremony Is A Go
Attendees are asked to wear rainbow colors and create rainbow chalk sidewalk art as the LGBTQ+ pride flag is raised at Bedford Town Hall.
BEDFORD, NY — The town of Bedford will kick off Pride Month with a Progress Pride Flag raising celebration at town hall.
The rainbow flag will be raised on June 5, during festivities taking place from noon to 12:30 p.m. Attendees at the event are encouraged to wear rainbow colors to celebrate the occasion.
As the flag is raised to commemorate the Stonewall uprisings, participants will also take part in “Chalk the Walk Rainbow” activities. Participating merchants in each of the Bedford hamlets will hand out chalk to help turn the sidewalks the colors of the rainbow. Shops in Bedford, Katonah, Bedford Village and Bedford Hills will take part.

Only sidewalks in front of the stores providing chalk will be temporarily brightened to show support for diversity and equality.
“Today, the rainbow has become a symbol of resilience and pride within the LGBTQ+ community,” organizers of the event wrote in a statement announcing the community-wide celebration. “In fact, there are several rainbows to represent the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.”

The events are envisioned as both a celebration and commemoration, but social distancing rules will be enforced. Organizers say masks will also be required for all attendees.
