Entertaining Reasons To Get Mom Out And About: Mad Hatter Parade
Live events are slowly returning to Hudson Valley, but social distancing, masks and common sense remain on the plate Mother's Day weekend.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Pandemic-related restrictions continue to be eased across the region, allowing small audiences to once again attend films, stage performances, exhibits and concerts.
Here are just a few of the best reasons to venture out with mom this Mother's Day weekend to enjoy a show. Safety still remains a top priority, so we also added a few virtual ways to enjoy a night out without leaving home. The weather looks promising for outdoor activities as well.

OUTDOOR LIVE MOTHER’S DAY CONCERT: Music on the Lawn - A live outdoor Mother’s Day concert featuring Wendy Stern on the flute and Shelby Yamin playing violin. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. Masks and social distancing will be required. Free admission to the performance which will be held at 4 p.m. May 9, at the Palisades Community Center. 845-359-3988

HEALTH: Walk in Mother’s Day Weekend Vaccines - The ultimate gift for mom might be keeping her safe. The special Mom’s vaccine event is open to anyone over the age of 18, but moms and their kids are encouraged to take advantage of the unique session. Appointments are helpful, but not required. May 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Westchester Community College. Register here.

IT’S A PARADE: The Mad Hatters Parade - The annual community-built wearable art parade on the streets of Hudson is back again and all are welcome to join the March with their own homemade masks. Less artistic face coverings will also be required this year. Spectators are welcome as well. The parade route starts at The Hudson Library at 2 p.m. and ends at the Basilica Hudson about an hour later. Participants are encouraged to register here.

VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE: Catherine Russell - The live streamed concert is presented in collaboration with Caramoor and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Tickets for the May 8, 8:00 p.m. event range from $15 to $45. A subscription to all 8 Spring virtual concerts is available for $80. CRAFT TIME: Stoneware Workshop - An expert guided pottery project and mom gets to keep the art as a gift. Tickets are $59 and supplies are included. Mount Kisco Pottery Factory 914-242-3200
ART OPENING: Together Apart, Creating During COVID - "At this time of great loss and physical distancing, many of us have turned to creative outlets to help us cope, express our anguish, and gain agency when we feel helpless. 'Together apART: Creating During COVID' features more than 250 works of painting, photography, sculpture, sewing, crafting, songwriting, poetry and other creative activities by 224 artists and community members from throughout the Hudson Valley." The exhibit runs from May 7, to August 1, at the Arts Westchester Gallery and online. Reservations are required.
