Former Prison Cook Sentenced For Sex With Inmate
He pleaded guilty last November, authorities said.

BEDFORD, NY — A former prison cook who admitted he had sex with an inmate was sentenced Tuesday. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Garth Trail, who pleaded guilty in November, was sentenced to "shock probation" where he will serve four months in jail followed by 10 years' probation. He will have to register as a sex offender.
Trail pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual act, a felony.
He was formerly the head cook, employed by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills.

The facility is a medium-security correctional facility that houses women only.
Trail resigned his job Sept. 30, 2017.

He was arrested May 1, 2018, for engaging in a sexual act with an inmate victim on Sept. 27, 2017, in the kitchen area of the facility. He was one of three corrections employees arrested during May 2018.
Trail's arrest was the result of an investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, DOCCS and the New York State Police.
