Golden's Bridge FD Holds Christmas Tree Sale

There will be some changes in the way people are allowed to choose a tree this year because of the ongoing pandemic.

GOLDENS BRIDGE, NY — The annual Christmas tree sale at the Golden’s Bridge Fire Department has kicked for the season.

The department's Christmas tree shop will be set up in the parking lot adjacent to the firehouse, located on Rt. 138 in Goldens Bridge, according to department president Edward Canora..

This year there will be some changes and safety protocols in place because of the ongoing new coronavirus pandemic.

The department will be selling the popular, pleasantly scented lush Fraser firs, whose durable branches hold up well to ornaments, and whose retention of its blue-green needles are the perfect centerpiece for a living room, family room or entry hall throughout the holiday season, according to a spokesman.

The trees, 6 feet and up, are priced according to size — ranging from $65 to $100. Wreaths of 12- and 24-inches are also available. Proceeds of the tree sales help fund the fire department's community programs and needs.

Sale hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

With the safety, health and well-being of shoppers and firefighters in mind — the latter who volunteer to work the Christmas tree shop — Canora said that despite the sale taking place outdoors, there will be some changes and precautions:

  • Customers are asked to remain in their vehicles when they pull into the parking lot.
  • Customers are permitted to exit their vehicles only when a firefighter alerts them that it is their turn to shop.
  • This process is designed to maintain a maximum of three customers/families shopping for a tree at any given time.
  • All customers (children included) are required to wear face coverings — and they must stay at least 12 feet from anyone outside their group.
  • Firefighters will make fresh cuts and secure trees to vehicle roofs, or load them into vehicles, following proper social-distancing protocols.

“This is new to everyone, so we ask that our customers be patient and courteous — and adhere to all of the COVID-related protocols to make this a pleasant and safe experience for everyone involved, Canora said. "We thank our incredibly supportive residents and businesses of our community during these challenging times.”

Canora is co-chairman of this year’s Christmas tree sale committee along with department Secretary Walter Hughes.
