John Jay Choirs Sing Out
John Jay High School Choir Kicks Off its Winter Concert Series

The John Jay High School Concert Choir and Chorale kicked off their Winter Concert at the high school. The concert is one of The Winter Concerts being held by the John Jay High School Performing Arts Department.
The Concert Choir started the evening. Their program featured two pieces by Franz Schubert, and a capella piece called "Fa Una Canzona" by Orazio Vecchi. The choir finished with "Corner of the Sky" from the musical, Pippin.
Soprano Jennifer Figueroa had a solo during one of the Schubert pieces and Noah Galvin, a tenor, soloed to start "Corner of the Sky."

The Concert Choir is open to all John Jay students who enjoy singing.
After a short intermission, the Chorale sang six pieces, "Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light" by J.S. Bach; "Cantate Domino" by Hans Leo Hassler; "The Road Not Taken" by Randall Thompson; a Bahamian Spiritual called "All My Trials"; "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre; and the first movement from Mozart's "Requiem." Four of the works sung were a capella.

Students must audition to join the John Jay Chorale, which is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
The Concert Choir was conducted by Amy M. Geiger and the Chorale was conducted by Steven Morse. Both groups were accompanied by John Lettieri on piano.
The John Jay Chorale, the Wind Ensemble, and the Symphony Orchestra have been invited to perform at Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan in March, said Morse. Their performances will be part of Perform America. Morse has been conducting the Chorale for more than 14 years.
The Winter Concerts will continue next week with a performance by the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble at 7:00 Â p.m. on Jan. 11. The String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra will hold a concert at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 12.
The winter series will conclude with a performance by the "5:30" Jazz Ensemble, the "7:00" Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Jazz, Noteables, Rolling Tones, and Treble Makers at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 19.
