Katonah Small Business Spotlight: North Lane Company

Our business series features local entrepreneurs. This time we feature a Katonah business owner who provides marketing services and more.

KATONAH, NY - Our Small Business Spotlight shines a light on local businesses we may not know that well.

How did you come up with the name? Our name is based on where we are, our offices are on a quiet country farm road. We are surrounded by goats, chickens and pasture. A very unique place for business service company, yet the setting allows us to focus on our work and remain relaxed. It contrasts well with our pace of work.

Why start a business in this town? Somers/Katonah while close to NY City, is also quiet and peaceful. Our customers feel at ease in coming "up" to see us. As we work with small business owners, it's important to get them away from the business. It allows them to focus more and make good decisions.

What business are you in? We provide small business owners with Marketing, Technology and Management services. Our firm is a group of professionals that dig in and get things done for overwhelmed owners of small businesses. Once we get started, we become an essential part of our customer's success. We handle things like fixing computers, setting up digital marketing campaigns to developing applications for sales. North Lane is that person you rely on to get things done.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? Explaining what we do. It's easier to just help people make their business better than to figure out how we do it. So often I am asked, what is North Lane and my answers usually come in form of what we just did to help someone. For example, setting up Facebook posts for a hardware store for Memorial Day, or answering an owner's questions about email marketing. Once they discover us, small business owners hand over a lot of tasks.

What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? Watching our customers "graduate." Our motto is "making a good business better," and we try our best to help our customers develop into a successful self-sustaining business (meaning they don't need us). This is our truest reward and one that makes me very proud. It's a culmination of hard work and a true partnership between North Lane and our customers.

How does your business give back to the community? We donate time and money to 4H, the Grange and other organizations. Giving back comes easy for all of us. Each North Lane professional has unique volunteer activities and passions. Our company encourages everyone to step back and give. We support this by providing time and resources to all.
