Local Residents on New Canaan Country School Championship Team

New Canaan Country School’s boys’ varsity ice hockey team won the 45th annual Upland Invitational Tournament held in Kennett Square, PA, Jan. 12 and 13. The seventh, eighth and ninth graders went 3-0-1, beating The Rectory School, Upland Country Day School and Greenwich Country Day School, and tying a strong Rumsey Hall School team 3-3 in the final game to capture the Championship Cup.
“We are really proud of these boys,” said Head Coach and New Canaan Country School Math Teacher Matt McDonald. “It was a real team effort; each and every player had a part in bringing this trophy home.”
Members of the 2019 championship team include Alex Almeida, Andrew Almeida, Walker Blair, Stanley Bright, Walker Bright, Jasper Engle, Evan Hayes, Beau Johnson, Logan Johnson, Paul Schilcher and Alexander Sotirhos, all of New Canaan, Charlie Gaynor of Pound Ridge (NY), Jamie Grubb of Bedford (NY), Nikolas Cadoret of Stamford, Peter Diorio of West Redding, Sam Jones of Rowayton, Head Coach Matt McDonald and Assistant Coaches Marshall Johnson and Michael Landino.

New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9.
