A Love Letter To Sky The Golden Retriever
"For Christmas I bought you 15 squeaky tennis balls. This Valentine's Day, I'm bringing home a bouquet of 30."

To celebrate Valentine's Day, we asked Patch readers to write a love letter to that special someone and let us deliver it. This is Mark Stevens' love letter to his Golden Retriever, Sky:
Dear Sky,
There are women in my life whom I love dearly (most of all your mom, my wife, sweet Carol), but my Golden Retriever, Sky, I have to write to you about my deepest thoughts on this Valentine’s Day.
You gorgeous bundle of golden energy, you came into my world seven years ago, just as my wonderful sons were building their own lives in business, marriage and Manhattan. You filled a void that left me lonely — the way a dad feels when he can’t play, swim, hike with his kids every day.
From day one, you decided to give your mom and me all of the love you have. To make us fulfilled. To devote your life to us. To walk by my side and sleep by my bed every night.
I once travelled the world every year but ever since you embraced us with your adoration and boundless generosity, I can no longer travel, as that would mean being apart from you, dear Sky. And that’s too much for both of our hearts to bare.
As your vet often says, “Sky loves life more than any creature I’ve ever met.”
So much of that love embraces me so sweetly. For Christmas I bought you 15 squeaky tennis balls. This Valentine’s Day, I’m bringing home a bouquet of 30.
Watching you fetch and proudly bring them back to me makes my heart sing!
Love,
Your Dad, Mark Stevens
