Mount Kisco Elementary Removes Barriers with New Share Station

Inspired by something she saw on social media and helped by a generous donation from Staples Cares via the Westchester County Police Department, Mount Kisco Elementary School Principal Inas Morsi-Hogans found a new way to remove barriers for her students: the Share Station.

Filled with a steady supply of notebooks, pencils, crayons and more, the Share Station gives students free access to essential supplies they need for school or at home.

“The Westchester County Police Department dropped off a very generous amount of school supplies from Staples during their Operation Blue Santa drive by in December,” Morsi-Hogans said. “My wheels started to spin about what to do with the supplies.”

After ordering clear wall mounts, Morsi-Hogans set up the new school supply sharing station in the main hallway, right outside of the library. It is replenished regularly thanks to ongoing donations through a continued partnership with Staples and the Westchester County Police. In fact, Officer Dave Sanchez was in just this week to refill the supplies.

Morsi-Hogans officially announced the Share Station to students last month during morning announcements, letting them know that it is for everyone in the school community, including them. Students were guided on properly sanitizing their hands (there is a hand sanitizer dispenser right next to the station) and encouraged to take what they need whenever they need it.

“The idea is to remove barriers or any stigma that come with lack of preparedness,” Morsi-Hogans said. “It's been stressful for kids doing two types of school (hybrid) to maintain their executive functioning.”
