Parents, Educators, Police Horrified by Nearby School Slayings
The news is hard to hear, one mom said.
"I am in shock. I can't imagine getting the call from your school that this is happening," said Sharon Rowley, a Bedford mother of six children. "And what about all of the parents that showed up to try to collect their children during this tragedy... And they are not there. I cannot imagine their agony."
Rowley said she's working on how to tell her children.
"Right now I am trying to bend my head around what to say to my own kids when I pick them up. They need to hear about this from me... Not from other kids at school on Monday. But how to explain this to kids in a way that makes them feel safe in their school, when Sandy Hook could just as easily have been their school?" she said. "I am heartbroken, and in shock, and I just don't know what to say..."

The superintendent of the Katonah-Lewisboro school district issued this statement:
Dear Katonah-Lewisboro Staff and Parents,
We are aware that there has been an act of great violence in Newtown, Connecticut. Â
We have been assured by the New York State Police that Katonah-Lewisboro students, staff and residents are completely safe. Â
We will be providing available resources to help staff and families throughout this crisis.
School psychologists and social workers will be available in all school buildings on Monday,Â
December 17. Â Additionally, we will post relevant information on our website to assist families in speaking with their children about a crisis of this nature. Â
Our hearts go out to all of our colleagues, friends and families, and particularly the children involved in this incident.
