Rain, Wind Gusts Factors In Hudson Valley Holiday Travel

In case you want some more rain, after the weekend's soaker, another storm will be moving through the Hudson Valley in advance of Thanksgiving. It will also be bringing some gusty winds that could make travel a little trickier.

The holiday week will start out with a warming trend in the Hudson Valley with temperatures approaching 60 degrees.

However, on Wednesday, the rains move in, bringing with them wind gusts.

"Winds are forecast to increase around the eastern Great Lakes during Tuesday night and become strong and gusty over much of the Northeast from Wednesday afternoon into Thanksgiving Day," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

Wind gusts forecast from 40 to 50 mph in the Hudson Valley could end up disrupting travel, especially for motorists in high-profile vehicles.

Combined with the rain, there is a risk of hydroplaning if you are traveling at highway speeds, AccuWeather warned.

Thanksgiving Day will be in the mid-40s and breezy, so it will likely feel colder.

Here is the forecast for the week from the National Weather Service:

• Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.
• Monday Night: Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Light southwest wind.
• Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 58. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning.
• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Light and variable wind.
• Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
• Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.
• Thanksgiving Day: Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 41.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.
