Sidney Handler of Pound Ridge, Former IBM Senior Finance Executive

Handler retired from IBM after 38 years of service.

POUND RIDGE, NY — Sidney Handler of Pound Ridge, NY died peacefully April 13 at the age of 85. His Beloved family; wife Wendy (Haims) and children Nancy (Nikel) and Scott Handler were at his side. He was step father to Amy Bender and Barrie Klein and grandfather to Harry Nikel, to Allie, Brittany and Rowdie Handler, and to Rebecca and Sarah Bender. Sid was a wonderful father-in-law to Greg Nikel, Bruce Bender and Pepper Abel. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ann (Wilster), his mother Florence, his father Harry, and his sisters Mollie and Ruth (Goodman) of New Jersey.

Sid graduated from Rutgers University in 1954. After a short position as a Certified Public Accountant, he was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was a proud veteran and was a founding member of the National Museum of the United States Army.

At IBM, Sid had a long and distinguished career including Assistant General Manager Application Business Systems; Vice President Channel Financing, IBM Credit Corporation; General Manager, IBM Financing Services International Limited (London) and Vice President, Financing Services IBM Europe. In 1998 Sid retired as Vice President, Finance and Planning of IBM Global Services after 38 years of service.

Sid was an avid sports fan (NY Giants and Yankees) and coached children’s sports teams in Hartsdale and Bedford Village, serving as President of Bedford Village Athletic Association (1972). He was also active on many boards including the Stamford Symphony, American Hospital of Paris, Wellesley College and other civic organizations including CLUSTER Community Services in Yonkers.
