This has been an emotional day. As we’re likely all aware now, shortly after 5pm, the jury in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Dereck Chauvin returned a guilty verdict on all three charges against him in the death of George Floyd.

While accountability for excessive force has been acknowledged, no amount of legal justice can make up for the grievous loss of life. To the family of George Floyd whose mourning will never end, I wish this outcome nonetheless provides them with some measure of comfort.

With the trial over the ongoing work of creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community continues here in Bedford -- where our differences are celebrated as our strengths. That is my highest priority as supervisor of this beautiful town.
