The Lewisboro Republican Town Committee held its convention this week to nominate its slate for the 2021 election. The four candidates were endorsed unanimously, after a weekslong process where the committee held public interviews and whittled down a list of eight highly qualified candidates.

Local business owners and first-time candidates, Bill Bongiorno and Alison Biddle, were endorsed for Town Supervisor and Town Board, respectively. They will be joined on the ticket by incumbent Tax Receiver Deirdre Casper, and local attorney Andrea Rendo, who narrowly lost a race for Town Board last year.

“It's an honor to be chosen as a candidate for such an important position for our town,” Mr. Bongiorno said. “I am so proud and blessed to have two incredible women as my running mates. Together, we have formed the basis for a bold and ambitious vision for Lewisboro for the 21st century. We need to revitalize our town, reimagine community involvement, and bring everyone into the conversation. We want to bring more ownership to our citizens of our town government.”

Highlighting how Rendo’s 2020 campaign plank about updating the town's four-decade-old master plan was turned into action by the current board, Bongiorno has already begun formulating a comprehensive set of policy proposals to move the town forward. The Office of Town Supervisor will be an open seat, following the retirement of longtime Supervisor Peter Parsons.

Receiver of Taxes Deirdre Casper said, “It is an honor to serve the Lewisboro residents as their Receiver of Taxes, and to have been trusted in this important fiduciary role since 2013. Using skills I learned in the private-sector I have consistently worked to modernize the tax office to more effectively collect and account for the vital funds necessary to keep our town, county, schools and special districts running, while also providing first-rate customer service and improved payment options to all the Town’s residents.

Mrs. Biddle has deep roots in the area, and is raising two children in the school district with her husband. After a career on Wall Street, she brings fresh and innovative ideas to the GOP ticket.

“Nothing is more important to me than this community where I choose to raise my family. I am ready to step up and do more for our town. I am thankful to the Republican Committee for endorsing me for their ticket this year. It is an honor to be running with such qualified candidates as Bill and Andrea," Mrs. Biddle said.

Rounding out the ticket is Mrs. Rendo, who is an experienced municipal and criminal defense attorney. While challenging the one-party status quo in a Presidential year, Rendo received the second most votes for town-wide office in the history of Lewisboro. “I am immensely grateful to the Committee for their trust and honored to be part of such an outstanding slate of candidates to serve the people of our Town,” Mrs. Rendo remarked.

“Bill, Alison and I want to make the Town Board a more responsive team; one capable of collaborating on common-sense solutions and at the same time willing to maintain a high standard of accountability as elected officials. It’s high time we bring our Town together again and elect a Board who will never forget why they are there and whom they serve.”

The candidates are expected to unveil their platform in the coming weeks. They have already discussed improving Wi-Fi infrastructure, protecting our water quality and local lakes, becoming a climate-smart community, and broadening the tax base to protect services and hold the line on property taxes.

“We want to hear from as many Lewisboro stakeholders as possible and work together for an even brighter future for our gem of a town, Lewisboro,” Mr. Bongiorno concluded.
