Zoe Caldwell, Tony-Winning Actress, Dies At 86
Caldwell was a long-time resident of Pound Ridge.

POUND RIDGE, NY — Tony Award-winner Zoe Caldwell died Sunday in her Pound Ridge home. She was 86.
Through a spokeswoman, her son Charlie Whitehead said the cause of the actress' death was Parkinson's disease, the New York Times said.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Caldwell won the Tony four times: "Slapstick Tragedy," "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," "Medea" and "Master Class," as Maria Callas.

State Sen. Pete Harckham, D-South Salem, posted on Facebook that the news of her passing was sad, "but I am heartened by her incredible legacy as an artist, and also as a longtime supporter of the arts and land conservation in Westchester County."
He said Caldwell donated a substantial piece of her property near her home as a wildlife preserve in memory of her husband, the famed Broadway producer Robert Whitehead.

"The many accolades and awards she received only hint at the immensity of her achievements and cultural stature," Harckham said. "We were so fortunate to have her here as our neighbor."
