2016 Election Preview: 14th Assembly District
Incumbent David McDonough is being challenged by Mike Reid.

Republican Assemblyman David McDonough is being challenged by Democrat Mike Reid for the 14th Assembly District seat.
McDonough has represented the district since 2002. Before the area was redistricted, McDonough represented District 19. McDonough is the Chairman of the Assembly Minority Task Force on Public Safety He is the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Transportation Committee, and serves on the Health, Education, Veterans’ Affairs and Consumer Affairs committees. He is also a member of the Nassau County Task Force on Family Violence. Prior to his election, he was a president of the Nassau County Council of Chambers of Commerce.
Reid is a career paramedic, and works with Northwell Health as an EMS educator. He has also been active with the volunteer fire department since he was 14. He is a Past President of the Nassau County Firemen’s Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. Recently, he helped form the Bellmore-Merrick Heroin Awareness Task Force.

The 14th Assembly District encompasses Jones Beach, Merrick, Bellmore, North Merrick, North Bellmore, Wantagh and Seaford, and parts of Roosevelt.
