Bellmore Avenue In North Bellmore To Get New Traffic Light
The county has given the green light to install the device at the intersection, which has seen many crashes in recent years.
After a request from the community, Nassau County will be installing a new traffic light at the intersection of Bellmore Avenue and Davenport Place in North Bellmore. The community voiced its concerns to the county after recent accidents at the intersection, which is located in a residential neighborhood.
“After the community observed numerous accidents, I requested that the Department of Public Works conduct a traffic study for the intersection," said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. "The results of the department’s study concluded that the best course of action is the installation of a traffic signal at this intersection. The safety and wellbeing of Nassau’s residents is my main priority and I thank the community members for bringing this to my attention."
While there had been a few incidents at the intersection in the past, in the last three years there were multiple accidents, including an accident involving a Nassau County police officer on a motorcycle. The accidents and discussions with the community prompted the Curran to direct the Public Works Traffic Engineering Unit to do a comprehensive study of the intersection to see if safety adjustments were needed. As part of the study, the location was physically observed at different times to help identify any factors that may be playing a role in the increase in accidents.
