DeLauter Captures North Bellmore School Board Runoff

Incumbent trustee defeats challenger Frank LaMagra by 173 votes after candidates had finished tied a month ago.

The tie North Bellmore school board election on May 21 between JoAnn DeLauter and challenger Frank LaMagra was finally settled 34 days later Tuesday with the incumbent coming out on top.

DeLauter, who is the current North Bellmore school board president, won her third term as a trustee by 173 votes, 556 to 383. She and LaMagra, a retired New York City Narcotics detective investigator, had finished tied at 799 votes apiece on May 21 for the second of two trustee seats, which prompted Tuesday’s runoff election.

"I'm very happy that I will be able to carry forward and serve my community another three years," DeLauter said. "I feel like I have a lot to offer the school district."
