FIRST-EVER, CO-SPONSORED GROUNDWATER SYMPOSIUM FOR NASSAU AND SUFFOLK
Long Island Water Conference and Suffolk County Water Authority Host Conference on Important Drinking Water Issues

New York (April 24, 2013) – The Long Island Water Conference and The Suffolk County Water Authority are joining together to celebrate National Drinking Water Week with the first-ever, co-sponsored joint groundwater symposium on Long Island on May 10, 2013. The informative symposium will have panels featuring professionals in the water supply industry and respective fields discussing water availability and quality, infrastructure management, and protecting Long Island’s groundwater supply for future generations.

“We want to raise awareness of the importance of Long Island’s groundwater,” said Jeff Szabo, CEO of Suffolk County Water Authority. “We hope that by doing so residents and businesses will become more proactive about helping to preserve our precious water supply and recognize the significance of this unique natural resource.”

The groundwater symposium will be held at Carlyle On The Green at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, NY. Speakers and attendees will include a variety of elected officials, experts, educators, advocates and professionals from the water industry.

“This first-ever, co-sponsored symposium will be an informative day to discuss the status of our groundwater in Nassau and Suffolk County,” said Dennis Kelleher of the Long Island Water Conference. “We will discuss crucial current and future drinking water supply issues that impact all of us on Long Island.”

In addition to discussing Long Island’s groundwater issues, the 28th annual “Best Tasting Water Contest” will be conducted at the symposium and the winning local supplier will be announced. Groundwater is the sole source of drinking water for three million Long Island residents and the conference will be the culmination of the weeklong celebration of National Drinking Water Week.

The symposium is open to all members of the public.
