Solar Energy Presentation Given at Dinkelmeyer Elementary School

Built Well Solar president Dan Sabia gives presentation to sixth grade students.

Story written by Nancy Hiler

Built Well Solar president Dan Sabia recently was invited to talk about solar energy to the sixth-grade classes at John Dinkelmeyer Elementary School in North Bellmore.

The father of one of the students in Jill Drum’s sixth grade science class had solar panels installed on their home by Built Well Solar, and suggested that Dan be brought in when his daughter was assigned a science project on renewable energy. The student, Sydney Mason, also brought in her family’s ten dollar LIPA bill, down from hundreds of dollars per month before solar was installed on the Bellmore home.

On Monday, June 17, Dan brought a solar panel into the classroom and explained to the children how it works. “Where do you see solar energy at work?,” Dan asked. Many responded that they’ve seen solar panels on rooftops, at work recharging cell phones, and in use in their calculators. Dan also spoke about renewable energy being today’s clean, unlimited replacement for fossil fuels. He discussed both solar electricity and solar hot water. The children asked many interesting questions, and contributed a great deal of their own knowledge of renewable energy, making for a lively and educational discussion.

Any organization or school who would like someone from Built Well Solar to voluntarily speak about solar energy, can email info@builtwellsolar.com.
