Yes, it landed!  The solar-powered plane, the Solar Impulse landed at JFK airport this week, and visitors were welcome this past weekend! Among those visitors was local Bellmore businessman, owner of Built Well Solar Corp. Dan Sabia.
"The plane was truly amazing," Mr. Sabia said. "The wingspan of close to 12,000Â solar cells was impressive."
The plane, called the Solar Impulse – the brainchild of Swiss pioneers Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg – landed at JFK International Airport on Saturday, July 6, making aviation (and solar!) history...the first time a plane powered exclusively by solar energy flew across the USA, from the West to the East Coasts without using a single drop of fuel.Â
