Man Accused Of Assaulting Officer During Bellmore Traffic Stop

BELLMORE, NY — A man is accused of assaulting a Nassau police officer after being stopped on Sunrise Highway near Bellmore Avenue on Wednesday evening with an unreadable license plate, detectives said.

Willie Kennedy, 39, of Amityville, became uncooperative and combative toward the officer, police said.

Kennedy refused to comply with verbal commands got into a struggle with the officer and was subdued before taken into custody, detectives said.

The officer was treated at an area hospital for multiple injuries to his hands, arms and knees, police said.

Kennedy, who was due to be arraigned Thursday, faces charges that include second-degree assault and resisting arrest.
