Mepham Varsity Kickline Honored For National Championship Win
The Town of Hempstead honored the team with a sign that will sit in front of the school to commemorate their victory.

BELLMORE, NY — After a long wait, the Wellington C. Mepham High School Varsity Kickline Team was finally able to celebrate its well-earned national championship. Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr. and Councilman Christopher Carini recently recognized the outstanding efforts of these students by presenting the team with a congratulatory sign that immortalizes the titles they earned.
The sign will be displayed in front of the school as students return for the 2020-21 school year. In addition to their national championship, the team also won regional championship titles in both Large Varsity Kick and Large Varsity Team Performance.
“A celebration is long overdue for Mepham’s Varsity Kickline team,” said Clavin. “These competitors put in countless hours of effort and training in order to be the best — it’s time to finally recognize these national champions representing America’s largest township.”

Right before the closure of all New York State schools due to the coronavirus, the Mepham Pirates captured the national title in Large Varsity Kick down in Orlando, Florida. Eager to return to school after their successful trip, the team soon learned that Wellington C. Mepham High School had shut its doors and moved to online classes to do its part in stopping the spread of coronavirus.
“The Mepham Varsity Kickline Team gave this competition their all,” said Dunne. “But coronavirus robbed them of their time to celebrate. I’m proud to officially recognize the accomplishments of this incredible team and wish them a safe return to school in the fall.”
