Mepham's Drama Club Raises Money for Domestic Violence Awareness

Mepham High's Skull and Bones Drama Club raises nearly $3,000 at annual fundraiser revue, donates to Center Against Domestic Violence.

Mepham High School’s Skull and Bones Drama Club presented its annual charity fundraiser revue “A Night on Broadway” on Sept. 18. Club members had selected the Center Against Domestic Violence as this year’s beneficiary and the raised almost $3,000 that will be donated to the organization.

In addition to selling tickets, students also sold orange ribbons for $1 and promoted the recent “Put the Nail in it” campaign against domestic violence by painting students’ left ring-finger nail purple for 25 cents.

The Center Against Domestic Violence in Brooklyn is dedicated to preventing violence within the family and to promoting the well being and economic independence of women and children. The organization provides safe shelters, a network of supportive services, advocacy, education and resource information services and building coalitions.

For the revue, students selected a variety of songs and scenes from Broadway productions and rehearsed mostly on their own. They met as a group for two hours a week over the summer to rehearse the production’s four group numbers. The revue is entirely student-directed and choreographed, led by the board members of Thespian Troupe 7495: President Matt Gibbons, Vice President Alaina Ciorra, Treasurer Samantha Morgan, Secretary Emily Fontanetta, Historian Kristen Corless, and Publicist Hailey Canonico. The revue was hosted by Kristen Corless, Max Perry, Melissa Ponton and Niamh Quigley.
