PORT JEFFERSON, NY – Nassau County Police Officer George Day headed home Friday after two months of hospitalization and rehabilitation from injuries he suffered in an on-duty hit-and-run crash on July 6.

Day, a member of the NCPD’s Motorcycle Unit, was on regular patrol when he nearly lost his life after he was broadsided by a driver who ran a stop sign in North Bellmore, police said.

While the driver, 40-year-old Hussam Rajab, was arrested a short time later, Day underwent a number of surgeries and spent months healing from his injuries, which included broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
