NBNM Lady Rebels District 31 Champs!

10U Lady Rebels Capture District 31 Softball Championship!

The 10U North Bellmore-North Merrick Lady Rebels cruised to a 9-1 victory on Saturday July 18, 2015 over Massapequa to secure the Little League District 31 softball championship. The Lady Rebels were undefeated in the regular pool play tournament, by defeating Merrick 10-0 and Seaford 9-2 along the way to the championship game.

NBNM and Massapequa anxiously waited out a severe thunder storm before the championship game finally began under the ominous skies. The rain did not seem to bother the Lady Rebels though, as their cheerful chanting in the dugout was louder than the thunder in the air. The Ladies came out swinging their big bats in the second inning, and batted around the order, clubbing 9 hits and scoring 9 runs to break the game wide open early on. Kerri Hatcliffe and Janaye LoForte each had two nice hits and scored two runs in the inning, while Danielle Biscardi delivered a big two out-two RBI single. Also coming up with clutch hits in the inning were Paige Antener and Konstantina Sigalas. The nine runs scored in the inning were all the Lady Rebels would need to win the game.

Kayla Weber handled the pitching duties for the Lady Rebels, holding the Massapequa team to only one run over 6 innings. Weber pitched a complete game gem, with seven strikeouts. Her battery mate Lily Yepez, at catcher, routinely threw out any Massapequa base runners trying to steal. Massapequa’s only threat came in the third inning when its star Mary Stork came up with a big hit to drive in a run. But Stork was gunned down trying to stretch the hit to a double by NBNM’s Lexi Nilsen, who cleanly fielded the ball and threw a bullet to shortstop Hailey Guerrero to nail Stork at second to end the inning. Guerrero herself put on a masterful defensive display throughout the game, as did the rest of the Lady Rebels. Super sub Casey Cascio filled in seamlessly for Alanna Morse, who missed the championship game but excelled in the team’s earlier playoff games.
