New Bellmore Art Gallery Honoring Gay Pride Month

Free exhibit taking place Saturday evening at G Gallery on 2717 Grand Ave. will feature artists from LGBT community.

A new Bellmore art gallery is honoring Gay Pride Month with a special free exhibit this Saturday evening.

The art show at G Gallery on 2717 Grand Ave. will feature artists from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Liz Dimaggio, who opened G Gallery in February, said she expects around 20 artists from Long Island and New York City to display their art at Saturday’s event, which is scheduled to last from 8-10 p.m. Wine and snacks will be served.

Dimaggio formerly worked as a social worker and previously interned at Pride For Youth, a center located on 2050 Bellmore Ave. that advocates for LGBT youth. In May, G Gallery hosted an art show in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and Dimaggio is planning future exhibits to raise awareness about alzheimer's disease and veterans issues.

“I try to have a social issue as a theme for my shows,” said Dimaggio, a Merrick resident. “It’s aimed to get awareness out there and open minds.”

In addition to having artwork for purchase, the show will also feature assorted jewelry for sale. For further information, log onto G Gallery’s website or Facebook page.
