NYAW Announces Scholarship Award to Two W.C. Mepham HS Students
Gabriella Castillo and Noah Lashin Each Receive $3,000 Scholarships to Pursue Their Education

Bellmore, N.Y. (August 28, 2020) - Through its partnership with the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY), New York American Water recently awarded Gabriella Castillo and Noah Lashin of W.C. Mepham High School a $3,000 scholarship each. This marks the ninth consecutive year that New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students to pursue higher education in a field that can make a difference in the water industry.
“We want to first say congratulations to Gabriella and Noah on all of their achievements and commend them for their passion for environmental and health issues,” said Lynda DiMenna, President of New York American Water. “We wish them both the best of luck on their education and career paths, and are confident they will achieve their goals of bringing about positive change.”
Gabriella and Noah graduated from W.C. Mepham High School this past June and are two of seven award recipients throughout the New York American Water Service Area this year. Gabriella is seeking a degree in Environmental Engineering while Noah will be pursuing a degree in Human Biology, Health, and Society. They will both be attending Cornell University this fall.

While a student at W.C. Mepham High School, Gabriella excelled academically as well as being the President of the Math Honor Society, the Treasurer of the National English Honor Society, captain of the Girls Varsity Badminton team, a member of the National Honor Society, as well as being a member of the math and robotics team. In addition to all of that, she is involved with National Grid in the Engineering Pipeline Program which is a five-year internship focusing on preparing students for a career in engineering.
Noah excelled academically as well, challenging himself to take as many AP courses as he could. In addition, Noah was a member of the National Honor Society for science, math, history, English, and Spanish. He has also done a significant amount of volunteer work including volunteering at the Nassau University Medical Center as well as his local Fire Department.
