Obituary: Mepham High School Wrestling Coach, Richard Anderson, Dies at 45

Visitation will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Died: July 23, 2016

Visitation: Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Massapequa Funeral Home, North Chapel on 1050 Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park.

Service: Thursday, July 28 starting at 9:45 a.m. at the Maria Regina R.C. Church on 3945 Jerusalem Avenue in Seaford.

Obituary: Richard Robert Anderson, of Massapequa Park, passed away on Saturday, July 23 after a battle with cancer. He was 45.

Anderson was the head coach of the Mepham High School Pirates wrestling team in Bellmore for the last 11 years. During this time, he coached 29 All-County wrestlers, four county champs, and a two-time state champion.

In 2012, he was named Nassau County Coach of the Year.

He started his career as the assistant coach at John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore.

A post on the Mepham Wrestling Facebook page read:

Coach's insatiable knowledge of the sport paired with his caring demeanor endeared him to his wrestlers and fellow coaches. There is nothing that he wouldn't do for his wrestlers.
In more than twenty years of coaching, Rich Anderson touched the lives of countless wrestlers who no doubt are better men today for having known him. He will be greatly missed by the entire Mepham wrestling family.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Cremation will be private.
