Students take their writing notebooks and pencil boxes outside to the front lawn for the Writer’s Workshop activity. Ms. Byrnes said that one of the best ways to for children to become better writers is by writing what they know.

The first graders grow their “writing muscles” by learning how to incorporate details into their stories, working on sentence formation and growing their vocabulary. Ms. Byrnes and Ms. Kelly also get to visit with each student to provide one-on-one support.
