Stephanie Hammerman Visits CrossFit Invasion

Hammerman, the world's first CrossFit trainer with Cerebal Palsy, teaches athletes to never give up.

Stephanie Hammerman, the world's first CrossFit trainer with Cerebal Palsy, recently visited CrossFit Invasion in Bellmore.

The adaptive athlete and coach hosted a workshop on how to do "double unders," jumping rope with two passes of the rope in each jump rather than one.

The CrossFit Level 1 Certified Coach, who was featured on CNN, will never be able to do a double under herself due to her condition.

"I’m really good at breaking the movement down and connecting with the non adaptive athlete,” the 23-year-old said.

Hammerman, a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University, began racing competitively as a hand cyclist after working with a trainer who inspired her to compete in full marathon in 2011. She learned about CrossFit shortly after and became the first woman with Cerebal Palsy to become certified as a CrossFit trainer.

She told her class at CrossFit Invasion to never give up or make excuses.

“My body mechanics are a bit different from yours,” she said. “While I may never be able to do a double under, one thing I never want to hear from any of you is “I can’t.’ I am here to tell you that if you believe you can, you will.”
