Student Airlifted From Nassau School After Fall

Police say his injuries were not life threatening, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. See video of the airlift.

UPDATE, 5:30 P.M.: Marie Testa, superintendent of the North Belmore School District. released the following statement about the accident.

Earlier today we experienced a serious situation where one of our children at Dinkelmeyer School needed to be transported to the hospital via helicopter. Thankfully, the child is in the process of being released from the hospital and will be sent home to recuperate.

We are extremely grateful for the swift action of Principal Brugge, the members of Dinkelmeyer’s school safety team and that of the first responders. The safety team responded in accordance with the Project SAVE Building Level Safety Plan which enabled them to respond instantaneously and provide proper medical care.

As always, the District will continue to work diligently and strategically to keep all members of our learning community safe. As is our practice, the safety team and members of the central administration debriefed and assessed our response to the situation, verifying that the district and building level safety plans and protocols were correctly implemented.

ORIGINAL STORY: A student was airlifted by Nassau County Police Department helicopter after falling at John G. Dinklemeyer Elementary School in North Bellmore.

North Bellmore firefighters and Nassau police responded to the scene, and loaded the boy into a helicopter, where he was airlifted to a nearby hospital. According to police, the boy's injuries were not life threatening.

It's unclear at this time what caused the boy to fall or how serious his injuries were.
