Long Island Weather: Thunderstorms Threaten Start Of 4th Of July

Long Island could get hit with some showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night and the wet weather threatens to make a mess of the start of the Fourth of July.

The highest chance of storms will come between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service says. Things should dry up by Wednesday afternoon with temperatures climbing into the mid-80s.

Tuesday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9pm. Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight.

Independence Day- A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. South wind 3 to 8 mph.

Wednesday Night- Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday- Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 83. Light southwest wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind around 11 mph.

Friday- Showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
