Bedford Hills-Katonah Little League Needs Your Help [PatchWorks]

PatchWorks—a new neighborhood platform that can help you raise money and recruit volunteers—is helping neighbors to share and celebrate local projects and causes with the community.

Here's a look at one of Chappaqua's current PatchWorks projects, "Bring Back the Lights" for Bedford Hills-Katonah Little League.

Q: Your name?

A: Dave Morabito. I'm a coach and father of two players in the league.

Q: Tell us a bit about your project.

A: For nearly 30 years our children have played baseball under the lights at Bedford Hills Memorial Park. Superstorm Sandy brought down one of the Main Field's light poles crushing bleachers and fencing. The storm weakened the remaining poles requiring their replacement as well.

Let's make it possible for our sons, daughters, grandchildren and future children of our community to enjoy playing under the lights at BHKLL for years to come. The league has raised over $70,000 so far. To fully replace the Musco Lighting System $195,000 is required.

With your help and the dedication of BHKLL's volunteers, we plan to be playing under the lights on Opening Day next April.

Q: Why is this project important to the community?

A: One of the great advantages of having lights is the ability to schedule weekday games later in the evening so folks with work obligations are able to attend evening and night games.

Q: What inspires you to volunteer or be active in your community?

A: For many players some of their most memorable moments are their games played under the lights. We would like to continue to create those memories for our younger kids who haven't had that special opportunity.
