Chappaqua Swim & Tennis Raises Thousands for Cancer Charities

Swimmers took part in Swim Across America annual event.

Eighty-five swimmers raised about $60,000 at the Swim Across America-Long Island Sound annual event at Chappaqua Swim & Tennis this past Saturday. Money is still coming in because added funds are still being collected.

All proceeds from the event stay local and will be used to support both cancer research and patient care and support in New York. The beneficiaries include The Cancer Support Team, The Tommy Palazzo Fellowship for Columbia University and Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital at Presbyterian Medical Center, United Hospice of Rockland, and The Swim Across America and DeMatteo Research Laboratories at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

This year had special significance for many of those involved in CST’s swim team. Three swimmers have family members who are currently battling cancer. One swimmer, eight-year-old Max Chwatko, swam in honor of his little sister who has brain cancer.
