Coyote Awareness; Natural Clay Workshop; Bicycle Sundays Start

Here are some of the events in Westchester's parks this weekend. NY has 'I Love My Park' activities across the Hudson Valley.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Here are some of the local events at Westchester's parks this weekend. It's the first Bicycle Sunday of the 2019 season, with the Bronx River Parkway closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.!

(Also, don't forget that 'I Love My Park Day' is Saturday with activities around the Hudson Valley.)

SATURDAY, MAY 4

Muscoot Hike – 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. A curator-led nature hike on one of the farm’s many hiking trails.

Volunteer Corps Work Day – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary, Playland Park, Rye – (914) 967-8720. Help with invasive plant removal, trail work, beach clean-up, and more.

For the Love of Bees: Teachings of the Beehive – 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary, Playland Park, Rye – (914) 967-8720. Bees and humankind have a long history together, and the teachings of the beehive offer a beautiful and critical message for survival of both species. Presented by beekeeper Margaret von der Meden.

Wildflower Garden Walk – 1 p.m., Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Routes 35 and 121 South, Cross River -- (914) 864-7322. Explore the beauty and tranquility of the Luquer-Marble Memorial Wildflower Garden, which was created in 1955 to preserve endangered native plants and educate visitors about plant conservation.

Coyote Awareness Day – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. Join representatives from the Wolf Conservation Center to understand the behavior and benefits of the eastern coyote and to empower the community with the tools, information and resources required to coexist with this misunderstood predator.

Volunteer Work Project: Spreading Gravel onto the Hiking Trails – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. Great for service credit hours. Please bring work gloves. All other tools will be provided.

SATURDAY – SUNDAY, MAY 4 – 5

Art Show: Works by the Westchester Watercolor Group -- 12 noon – 4 p.m., Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. Works of art on view in the historic main house weekends through May.

SUNDAY, MAY 5

Bicycle Sundays – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Bronx River Parkway, White Plains to Yonkers – (914) 995-4050. Bike, jog, ride, walk or skate the parkway from the Westchester County Center in White Plains to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers, a 13-mile round trip. Various points of entry and exit along the road. Fee for parking at the County Center. In the event of rain, program is cancelled. Also, 5/12 and 19; no program Memorial Day weekend.

Weekend Conservatory Tour – 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers – (914) 864-7268. Join Lasdon's horticulturist for a tour of the Tropical Rainforest exhibit. Learn about rainforests and colorful tropical plants. Admission $7 adults, $5 children 12 and under; purchase tickets at the Shop at Lasdon.

One with the Clay – 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. Find natural clay, collect it and bring it back to the Visitor Center to create something you can take home with you.

MONDAY, MAY 6

Monday Morning Bird Walk – 7:30 a.m. – 9: 30 a.m., Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. Bring binoculars and join Saw Mill River Audubon’s Anne Swaim for a hike through the farm’s back trails for sightings of local birds.
