DAR in Chappaqua Embarks on Cemetery Preservation Project
The goal is to photograph the entire Quaker Cemetery in Chappaqua over a period of time.

From Polly Cooper NSDAR: The Polly Cooper Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) is excited to embark on their first project in historic preservation - photographing tombstones for the web site, Find a Grave. The chapter started Tuesday at the Quaker Cemetery in Chappaqua with the help of town historian, Gray Williams. The goal is to photograph the entire cemetery over a period of time. "Old cemeteries are the very embodiment of history, providing a lasting record of those who have gone before us. The Daughters of the American Revolution program of comprehensively photographing the monuments in historic cemeteries makes an invaluable contribution to the understanding and preservation of our past, " said Gray Williams, New Castle Town Historian.

According to chapter member, Carol Nally O'Leary, "From 2007-2009 the Boy Scouts of Chappaqua, Troop #1 worked with town historian, Gray Williams, on documenting the historic graves of those buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Chappaqua. The Polly Cooper Chapter is now going to take their research to the next step and add the graves to ‘www.findagrave.com’ so the relatives of those buried there can find and view the grave from anywhere in the world. "

The NSDAR is open to all women, ages 18 and older, who have a direct line to a Patriot who served in the American Revolution. For more information please visit www.dar.org.
