Stolen Audi In Wrong-Way Chase Crashes Into Police Car, Pole
The 18-year-old was released without bail.
NEW CASTLE, NY — Police are not releasing the name or hometown of the 18-year-old who crashed into a police car Monday with a stolen Audi and sped south in the northbound lane of Route 22 through communities from Lewisboro to Pleasantville before crashing into a utility pole.
Police said the Audi was stolen. However, the man was not charged with grand larceny. He faces charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, a class D felony; plus Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd degree and Fleeing an Officer in a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, both class A misdemeanors.
New York State police said they initially tried to stop a 2010 Audi A4 on Interstate 684 in Lewisboro at 1:15 a.m. for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. The driver did not comply, instead getting off the highway at Exit 3 onto Route 22.

Going south, the driver attempted to make a left-hand turn and crashed into a State Police car. After the collision he continued south in the northbound lane and the troopers stopped their pursuit.
Shortly thereafter the patrol again saw the Audi traveling north in the southbound lane. The troopers had to take evasive action to avoid a second collision, police said.

Pleasantville Police patrols monitoring the pursuit later found the Audi and began to chase it.
The car fled north into Chappaqua and struck a utility pole. The 18-year-old driver was then taken into custody by the New Castle Police Department.
He was arraigned virtually before the town of North Castle Court and released without bail.
The man complained of pain and police sent for the Somers Fire Department who transported him to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation.
His next scheduled court appearance is Aug. 4.
State police said the Audi was reported stolen July 11 in Sturbridge Massachusetts.
