Local DAR Celebrates Anniversary of George & Martha Washington

Members of Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR commemorate women's suffrage at the annual New York City Chapter's luncheon

(New York, NY) Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR celebrated the 261st Anniversary of George and Martha Washington's Wedding Day at the New York City Chapter's annual luncheon on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at The Colony Club. The afternoon celebrated the momentous 100th anniversary of women's suffrage with honored guest speaker Denise Doring VanBuren, President General of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, delivering a moving speech on the history and sacrifice of the women who contributed to the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members descend from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With 178,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
