Local DAR Donates $500+ Worth of Items to Chemawa Indian School
Members of Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR and the community collected cold weather and personal care items for Chemawa Indian School students

(Chappaqua, NY) Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR recently collected and donated cold-weather gear and personal care items to the students of Chemawa Indian School. Members wish to extend a special thank you to Chappaqua resident Hermian Charles, whose thoughtful donation of hats allowed the chapter to double its contribution to the students. In total, the chapter donated 27 hats, gloves, or socks and 15 personal care items.
The NSDAR American Indians Committee is entrusted to the continuing education of the history and culture of this community as well as the support of the educational and cultural pursuits of its citizens. Located in Salem, Oregon, Chemawa Indian School is the oldest continuously operating off-reservation boarding school in the United States. Founded in 1880, the school serves approximately 300 to 400 students a year in grades 9 -12 from 19 different states. These high school students are encouraged to achieve the skills necessary to lead productive lives in the world and to be the Tribal leaders of tomorrow. For more information, visit chemawa.bie.edu/.
