New Castle Fire Commissioners Withdraw From Mount Kisco Contract
The houses covered by Mount Kisco Fire Department will now be covered by the Chappaqua Fire Department: news report.
MOUNT KISCO, NY — New Castle is withdrawing from its decades-old agreement with Mount Kisco to provide fire protection for 147 homes on the border between the town and the village.
Mount Kisco Village Manager Edward Brancati told The Examiner that it was the New Castle fire district’s decision. Chappaqua Fire Chief Russell Maitland told reporter Martin Wilbur that the fire department will take over, but that response times will increase because the Mount Kisco firehouse is much closer to that neighborhood than Chappaqua's King Street firehouse.
Maitland said he thought the change was due to an increase in the cost of the agreement due to the expense of the current project renovating Mount Kisco's firehouses, and that it was "ironic" that the architect in that project initially underestimated the cost, The Examiner reported.
