SATURDAY, NOV. 9

Morning Farm Chores: 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers: (914) 864-7282. Learn about farming in this hands-on workshop. Fee $6 per person or $20 for a family of 4. Ages 6 and up (not a drop-off program). Registration required at (914) 864-7286.

Fire Building: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Lenoir Preserve, 19 Dudley St., Yonkers: (914) 968-5851. Learn how to start a fire the primitive way with a bow drill as you discover the many ways the native people used fire when they inhabited this region.

Volunteer Corps Workday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Edith G. Read Sanctuary, Playland Park, Rye: (914) 967-8720. Help with invasive plant removal, trail work, beach clean-up and more. A great way to have fun, get some exercise and give something back to the earth.

Volunteer Clean-up Day: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Cranberry Lake Preserve, 1609 Old Orchard St., North White Plains: (914) 428-1005. Lend a helping hand doing various projects around the preserve to spruce it up. Call (914) 428-1005 to sign up.

Volunteer Work Project: Painting the Inside of the Visitors Center: 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1, Rye: (914) 835-4466. Great for any type of service credit hours. Please bring work gloves. Hand tools will be provided.

Leatherman Hike: 2 p.m. Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River: (914) 864-7322. Hear the lore of the Old Leatherman as told by storyteller Jonathon Kruk on this annual 2.5-mile hike. Meet at Michigan Road; hike starts promptly at 2 p.m.

Owl Prowl: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers: (914) 864-7282. Join Saw Mill River Audubon’s Anne Swaim for a multimedia review of owls in the Activity Building followed by a walk on the farm to listen and look for owls. For adults and children 6 or older. Space limited, registration needed.

ID and count birds at Nature Center feeders with volunteers from Saw Mill River Audubon. Great opportunity for photography, indoor activity, all ages, all skill levels. Also, 11/16, 17, 24 and 30.
