2016 Election Preview: 18th Assembly District
Incumbent Earlene Hooper is once again being challenged by Cornelius Todd Smith

Once again, Democratic incumbent Earlene Hooper is being challenged for her seat as the representative of the 18th Assembly District by Republican Cornelius Todd Smith.
Hooper has been the representative of the district since 1988. Despite criticism of being absent from her district, Hooper has soundly defeated challengers. Because of her tenure, she currently serves as the deputy speaker of the Assembly.
Smith is a banker who spends much of his time working in the district. He told Newsday that he teaches financial literacy to kids and works as a mentor with them. He also works with entrepreneurs to help them start businesses in vacant buildings in the district.
