FREEPORT, NY — The spirit of the holiday season reached the students of Freeport on Dec. 4 as the Nassau County Police Department and the Freeport Village Police visited Columbus Avenue School in celebration of the annual Toys of Hope Parade.

“With the COVID pandemic, so many events are either not able to happen or become virtual. The Parade of Toys is a wonderful event that brings joy to our families,” said Dr. Kishore Kuncham, superintendent of schools. “We are appreciative that the Nassau County Police Department and Toys of Hope were able to adapt the parade and still bring toys and happiness to our students.”

As holiday music played, officers arrived at the school and dropped off hundreds of toys, books and candy canes for the students, bringing big smiles to their faces.

By dropping off the gifts, the event, which would normally be a parade that comes to Freeport High School to distribute the toys, allowed for safe, socially distanced delivery. This is the third year the partnership between the NCPD and Toys of Hope has delivered toys to the children of Freeport.
